Na, ihr Lieben, fragt ihr euch auch noch, was ihr so zu Weihnachten verschenken könnt? Sabrina von "Lecker Schenken" hat mir geschrieben und mir ihre Webseite und die tollen Leckereien darauf vorgestellt.

Ganz im DIY - Do It Yourself Trend steht die Aktion, das heißt selber machen und ganz besondere und persönliche Geschenke verschenken. Es muss ja nicht immer die Massenware aus den Kaufhäusern sein, sondern mit den selbstgemachten Köstlichkeiten kann man den Liebsten zeigen, wie viel Mühe man sich nur für sie gemacht hat und verschenkt somit noch mehr Freude. 1. Was soll gezaubert werden? Soll es etwas Süßes, Pikantes, Flüssiges, Glutenfreies sein oder doch lieber Gebäck oder Aufstrich. 

2. Profi oder Anfänger? Nicht nur die geübteren Köche finden hier Rezepte auch einfache und welche, die schneller gehen lassen sich hier finden.

3. Wer soll überrascht werden? Soll das Geschenk für eine Frau, ein Kind oder einen Mann gezaubert werden? 

Wenn alles ausgewählt wurde, schließt sich der Deckel und es wird einmal kräftig gemischt bevor dann auch schon eine herrliche Geschenkidee erscheint. Das Rezept hierfür kann natürlich ganz kostenlos als PDF heruntergeladen werden und jede Datei enthält auch noch eine Verpackungsidee, die ganz einfach nachgebastelt werden können. Immer noch vorm Bildschirm? DIY - DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CHERRY PIT PILLOW

In the spirit of Halloween I made this little 'Dia de los Muertos' - themed cherry pit pillow out of fabric scraps left over from

one of my sisters projects. We kept the cherry pits after making cherry jam this past summer.

Passend zu Halloween habe ich dieses 'Dia de los Muertos' - Kirschkernkissen genäht. Der Stoff ist ein Überbleibsel von einem vergangenen Projekt meiner Schwester. Die Kirschkerne sind noh vom Sommer als wir Marmelade gemacht haben.

Aber damit zum Creadienstag und zum Upcycling Tuesday.

BYE BYE OCTOBER - HELLO NOVEMBER

I can't believe that October is already over. It's been fun. Here is a quick recap of the past month and a preview of what is coming up...

IS IT HALLOWEEN YET?

This is one of my first post in a while, we used the summer months to visit Russells parents in California, travel, and plan our wedding. Now that we are back in Germany I want to share my latest project: A Halloween Wreath.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I love to get an early start... This year I made a wreath out of straw, fabric scraps from past projects, and a bat out of jeans cut offs.

Wir sind diesen Sommer zurück nach Kalifornien geflogen um Russell's Eltern zu besuchen, zu reisen und unsere Hochzeit zu planen, daher ist dies einer meiner ersten Posts seit ein paar Monaten. Da wir aber jetzt wieder da sind, möchte ich mein neustes DIY Projekt mit euch teilen: Ein Halloween Türkranz.  Halloween ist einer meiner liebsten Feiertage und sobald es Herbst wird fang ich an zu schmücken, so auch dieses Jahr... Den Kranz hab ich aus einem Stroh Kranz, Stoffresten und einer Fledermaus aus Jeansresten gebastelt.

Und ab damit zum Creadienstag und zum upcycle tuesday.

DIY - EASY PEASY MANICURE

I have to admit I am a sucker for professional mani/pedis. Time after time I tell myself to save the money and use it for something more purposeful. So yesterday I took the time and sat down to do my nails - if it is fun I might do it more often! This is what I came up with. 

Not bad for my first attenpt at a design right?

It is actually really easy. First I painted all my nails black. I let them dry for about half an hour - just to be sure. Then I used tape to make the little triangle and painted that with glitter. I took the tape off fast but carefully and let that coat dry for another 15 minutes. Lastly I painted a clear coat onto my nails to make them smooth.

Easy enough. Anymore tricks for simple but fancy manicures?

Today is one of those days where I have so much to do, that I decided to do nothing and just finish my book instead. I know it is going to haunt me tonight when I will have to do all the things I pushing away right now but if it is between reading and anything else, reading will win. I have been obsessed with books ever since I was a little girl. My favorite Disney movie is 'Beauty and the Beast',  not only because I can identify with Belle but because I always wanted a library with that many books. I read every day, not only for school but for me. I carry at least one book with me at all times.

Right now I am reading:

- The Silver Star by Jeanette Walls

- Cultural Migrations and Gendered Subjects by Silvia Borrego and Maria Ruiz

One of the many reasons why I love reading so much is the fact that you can leave reality and become someone else...

I totally need to paint something like this on my chalkboard.

On my current reading list are these books:

- The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards

- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (this is actually on my night stand at home waiting for me)

- To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Again and again and again)

- Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson

As you can see I read almost everything. I do enjoy a good love story as much as a thriller, or satire...It's all about how well it is written. It's a good sign when I stop eating real food and think that sleep is less important than reading 10, 20, or 50 more pages...

BEAUTY: HAIR HAIR AND MORE HAIR

This is my hair. I have a lot of it. A LOT. Most of the time I wear it up in a bun. I have always had medium to long hair, I just like it that way. Apart from one time when I was 13 and I though I needed a short haircut I have been happy with my long hair. I have to admit that I don't spend a lot of time with my hair, mainly because my hair is very low-maintenance. I do not use a lot of products, I only wash it every 3-4 days and I have 'natural volume'. 

Das sind meine Haare. Ich hab unglaublich viele, daher trage ich sie meistens im Dutt. So lang ich mich erinnern kann hatte ich immer lange Haare, bis auf einmal als ich 13 war und fest davon überzeugt war einen Bob zu brauchen. Obwohl ich lange Haare habe nehme ich mir nicht viel Zeit für die Haarpflege, aus dem einfachen Grund, dass meine Haare nicht viel Zuwendung brauchen. Ich benutze keine Haarprodukte, ich wasche meine Haare nur 3-4 mal die Woche und ich hab natürliches Volumen.

Katja started a project called "The Rapunzel Experiment", it is a series about hair, how to help it grow and keep it healthy. So I thought I'd be fun to share my daily hair routine:

Katja hat auf ihrem Blog 'Das Rapunzelexperiment' ins Leben gerufen. Es geht um Haare, Haarwachstum und gesunde Haare. Daher dachte ich, dass es ganz interessant wäre mal meine tägliche Routine zu erklären:

Day 1: I wash my hair. I use organic conditioner without any silicons, no shampoo. After I wash my hair I dry it off with a towel. If it is not freezing cold outside I let it air dry. However, if it is really cold, I blow dry it for a couple of minutes on the lowest temperature possible.

Tag 1: Ich wasche meine Haare mit natürlichem Conditioner, kein Shampoo. Danach trockne ich meine Haare mit einem Handtuch. Wenn es super kalt ist föhne ich meine Haare auch schon mal an, aber ich versuche meine Haare nicht der Hitze auszusetzen.

Day 2: I wake up and put it in a bun. 

Before I go to sleep I put in some dry shampoo and leave it overnight.

Tag 2: Nachdem ich aufwache mache ich mir einen Dutt. Abends bevor ich ins Bett gehe, sprühe ich dann Trockenshampoo in meine Haare und lasse es über Nacht einwirken.

Day 3: I brush out the remaining dry shampoo, shake it out and go about my day. I generally do not brush my hair a lot. But the dry shampoo tends to leave a white film so you got to brush it out.

Depending on how my hair looks I either spray it with dry shampoo again before I go to sleep and leave it for another day or I take a little bit of Coconut Oil and rub it into the ends. In that case I wash my hair the next day.

Tag 3: Zuerst bürste ich das restliche Trocken Shampoo aus, schüttel die Haare vornüber gebeugt und starte in den Tag. Ich bürste meine Haare super selten. Da das Trocken Shampoo aber weiße Reste lässt, ist das bürsten ab und zu nicht zu vermeiden. 
Abends kommt es dann drauf an ob wie meine Haare aussehen. Entweder ich sprühe es noch mal mit Trocken Shampoo ein und lasse es noch einen Tag so oder ich reibe ein bisschen Kokos Öl in die Haare und wasche meine Haare am nächsten Tag.

Why I don't use shampoo: I have been trying different shampoos for years. Most of them with the outcome that I had to wash my hair every other day, because it got greasy or lost all of its natural volume. I started reading up online and while there where a lot of great suggestions, from not using any product, to using vinegar or beer, I decided on a simple organic conditioner. I get mine at the local drugstore for a couple Euros.

Warum ich kein Shampoo benutze: Über die Jahre hinweg habe ich viele Shampoos ausprobiert, die meisten mit dem Resultat, dass ich meine Haare öfter waschen musste, sie fettig aussahen, oder mein natürliches Volumen einfach weg war. Daher habe ich angefangen nach zu lesen, was ich so machen könnte und viele unterschiedliche Sachen gelesen, von Bier über Essig hin zu gar nicht mehr Haare waschen war alles dabei. Ich habe mich für natürlich Conditioner ohne Zusatzstoffe und Silikone entschieden, den kaufe ich bei DM für ein paar Euro.

What's up with Dry Shampoo? I wrote a longer post on Dry Shampoo a while ago. I have changed my routine quiet a bit since then, but I still use my homemade Dry Shampoo. But especially in the summer, the cocoa that leaves your hair smelling of hot chocolate tends to be a little disturbing to me...Therefore, I always have a store-bought version in my bathroom at all times.

Warum Trocken Shampoo? Ich habe hier schon ein mal einen längeren Post über Trocken Shampoo geschrieben. Ich habe meine Routine seitdem etwas geändert, aber nutze immer noch ab und an selbst gemachtes Trocken Shampoo. Aber besonders im Sommer stört mich der Kakao Geruch des selbstgemachten Shampoos. Daher habe ich immer mindestens eine Dose Trocken Shampoo im Badezimmer Schrank. 

Why don't I brush my hair? I feel like it doesn't do anything for my hair. I also try not to touch it a lot, because the more you touch or brush it the greasier it gets. In case I do brush my hair I use a brush called 'Tangle Teezer', you can get it a DM or any other drugstore. It's a silicon brush, that doesn't damage your hair.

Warum bürste ich meine Haare nicht? Je mehr ich meine Haare bürste, desto fettiger fühlen sie sich an. Das gleiche passiert wenn ich meine Haare viel anfassen. Wenn ich meine Haare bürste benutze ich den 'Tangle Teezer', kann man auch bei DM kaufen. Der Tangle Teezer ist eine Silikon Bürste, der die Haare nicht kaputt macht.

Why do I put Oil in my hair? And why Coconut Oil? I fell in love with Coconut Oil a few years ago. I buy the Organic Coconut Oil from Trader Joe's and use it for everything. Literally EVERYTHING. It's my face wash, body lotion, and hair product all in one. It gives my hair texture and makes it soft. For the first time in my life I don't have split ends or static hair.

What are your hair secrets?

Warum schmiere ich mir Öl in die Haare? Und warum ausgerechnet Kokos Öl? Ich liebe Kokosnuss Öl. Seit Jahren kaufe ich mir in Amerika immer Trader Joe's Kokosnuss Öl und nutze es für alles. Wirklich sales. Als Abschminkzeug, Körperlotion und für meine Haare. Es macht meine Haare weich und glänzend. Seit ich en benutze habe ich weder Spliss noch statisch aufgeladene Haare.

Habt ihr irgendwelche Geheimtipps?

RECIPE - (SPRING TIME IS) SMOOTHIE TIME

Once spring hits I exchange tea for smoothies. Not only are they fun to make but the also give you a boost of energy. Here is one of my favorites:

1 Cup of Milk

2 TBS Greek Yogurt

1 Handfull of Blueberries

5 Strawberries

1 Banana

Just throw everything in the blender, mix it together and enjoy!

Sobald der Frühling an der Türe klopft kommt der Tee zurück in der Schrank und der Mixer zum Einsatz. Smoothies sind einfach und lecker! Hier eins meiner Lieblingsrezept:

200 ml Milch

2 EL Greek Yogurt

1 Hand voll Blaubeeren

5 Erdbeeren

1 Banane

Einfach alles zusammen mixen und genießen! 

DIY - HEARTS OF FABRIC SCRAPS

Don't you have a bunch of fabric scraps from other projects just sitting around? I do and I decided to give them a new purpose today: Little Hearts.

I just grabbed two somewhat matching fabrics, leftover christmas ribbon, my scissors, tracing paper, a pencil, yarn, filling, and my sewing machine and I got to work.

I traced two hearts and added a .5 inch seam allowance. Then I cut out a total of 12 hearts, 6 of each fabric, 3 of each size, sewed them together, right sides together, added the ribbon, turned them around, filled them and closed the turning hole. And taaada: 6 beautiful hearts.

Habt ihr auch so viele Stoffreste von anderen Näh-Projekten? Ich habe heute entschieden, ein paar von den Stoffresten zu nutzen und etwas neues aus ihnen zu machen, und zwar kleine Herzen.

Dafür habe ich mir zwei Stoffe geschnappt, die einigermaßen zusammen passten, Weihnachtsband, meine Schere, Pauspapier, einen Bleistift, Garn, Füllwatte und meine Nähmaschine und hab losgelegt.

Zuerst habe ich zwei unterschiedlich große Herzen abgepaust und mit 1cm Nahtzugabe ausgeschnitten. Dann habe ich insgesamt 12 Herzen, 6 von jedem Stoff, 3 von jeder Größe, ausgeschnitten. Dann habe ich sie rechts auf rechts zusammengenäht und das Band eingenäht, sie rumgedreht, gefüllt und das kleine Loch zum Wenden zugenäht.

Und taaadaaa: schon hat man 6 wunderschöne Herzen.

Und ab damit zum Creadientag, Upcycling Tuesday und Herzenssachen.

DIY - PAINT SWATCH COLLAGE

For the wedding we got a bunch of paint swatches to find the perfect color scheme. After we made our picks I was stuck with all these paint swatches that I won't use so I decided to use them for an art project. And here is what I decided on: A Heart-Collage!

Als es darum ging Farben für die Hochzeit zu finden haben wir im Baumarkt diese Farbstreifen mitgenommen. Jetzt, da wir unsere Farben haben, hab ich all die übergebliebenen Streifen und keinen Nutzen dafür. Daher dachte ich, dass ich eine Herz Collage aus den Resten mache...

LIFE LATELY 11

Fact of the week: Father's Day in Germany was this week, while Father's Day in the US is not until the middle of June. So weird. But anyways, we took my dad out for a delicious dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.

Then my cousind came for the weekend and we had a girl's day filled with even more good food and shopping. I almost lost my faith in Aachen as a shopping city BUT Saturday changed my mind.

Plus the cake is always as treat.

Hello Giggles posted 10 words in the German langauge that have no equivalent in the English language.

I love these engagement pictures. They are different, fun and very natural. I want to be wearing a dress for my engagement pictures but I love the locations.

Of course I am always on the lookout for new DIY's and I'm definitely making some of these fabric frames and this flower crown.

Also, next week I am going to talk about hair. My hair. I can already tell you this much: This is NOT my daily hair routine, but it is close.

SEWING A BATHROBE

I am currently starting a gift pile for our nephew. He is just too cute to not spoil with huge amounts of gifts ;)

Since I love sewing and I refashion I decided to sew this Bathrobe out of this months Burda magazine. Here is their version of it:

LIFE LATELY 10

This week was filled with trips. First I went on an excursion with my job to the 'Zeche Zollverein' an old coal mine and UNESCO world heritage today.

I'll share more about this trip soon.

The second trip Russ and I took to Paris. It was wonderful and I'll also blog a little bit more on it next week.

Here are some of my favorite reads this week:

First there are '38 Yahoo Questions That Will Destroy Your Faith in Humanity'. Some of them cracked me up and others just kind of scared me. Well you should definitely check them out.

As a language major I love checking out other languages so these illustrations of words that cannot be translated into English. Found some German ones, check them out.

And of course so DIY's that I want to try soon:

* I love this Epoxy Resin Coffee Table and Happy Hour Marquee on A Beautiful Mess. The table looks like SO much fun to make and the Marquee just looks so cool.

* I wanna sew a bunch of these square shirts. They look easy enough to make...

* This little floor pillow looks so nice and you can download a free pattern. 

APFELSTREUSELKUCHEN // APPLE CRUMBLE

Heute geht's um meinem Liebsten Apfelstreuselkuchen. Und nicht nur einfach so...Im Rahmen des WORLD BAKING DAY veranstaltet die Liebe Nic vom Blog Luzia Pimpinella ein giveaway bei dem man eine knall-gelbe Kitchen-Aid Küchenmaschine gewinnen kann. What? Yes! Ein Traum! Da bietet es sich doch an euch meinen Apfelstreuselkuchen vorzustellen. Here we go!

Das Rezept:

300g Mehl

200g Butter

100g Zucker

350g Apfelmus

6 Äpfel

1 Ei

1 Päckchen Vanillezucker

Für die Streusel:

200g Butter

275g Mehl

125g Zucker

How-to:

1. Dieser Kuchen wird auf einem Backblech gebacken. Daher braucht ihr ein Backblech, dass ihr einfettet.

2. Mehl, Butter, Zucker, Ei und Vanillezucker zu einem Teig verarbeiten und gut kneten, dann auf dem Backblech verteilen.

3. Die Äpfel schälen, in Scheiben schneiden und in einer Schüssel mit dem Apfelmus vermischen. Dann die Masse auf dem Teig verteilen.

4. Nun zu den Streuseln: Die Butter in einem kleinen Topf schmelzen, dann den Topf vom Herd nehmen und das Mehl und den Zucker einmischen. Die Masse ein bisschen abkühlen lassen und dann zwischen beiden Händen zerbröseln um Streusel zu erzeugen. Am Besten macht ihr das direkt über dem Blech.

5. Den Kuchen bei 175 Grad (Stufe 3 bei einem Gasofen) 45min. backen. Dabei gut aufpassen, so dass die Streusel nicht verbrennen.

Today is all about my favorite Apple Crumble. A few days ago I stumbled upon the blog Luzia Pimpinella by Nic. Nic is holding a giveaway for a sun yellow Kitchen Aid in exchange for your favorite cake recipe in honor of this year's WORLD BAKING DAY. I know crazy right? I can not miss my chance to join and share my favorite recipe for an Apple Crumble with you. Here we go!

The recipe:

1 cup flour
3/4 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/3 cup apple sauce

6 apples

1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla sugar

For the crumble:

3/4 cup Butter

1 cup flour

1/2 cup sugar

How-to:

1. This apple crumble is prepared on a baking sheet. So you need a baking sheet and you need to spray it with PAM.

2. Mix the flour, butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla sugar and make a dough out of it. After you mixed it all up spread it on the baking sheet. 

3. Peel the apples and cut them into slices. Then mix them into a bowl with the apple sauce. Add the mixture to the dough.

4. Now off to making the crumbles: Melt the butter in a small sauce pan. Take the pan off the stove and mix in the sugar and the flour. After letting the crumbles cool down for a while rub them between your hands to produce the crumble. Best is to do it directly over the baking sheet. 

5. Bake your Crumble at 350F for 45min. Pay attention to the crumbles, so they don't burn.

DISPOSABLE CAMERA CHALLENGE - MY PICTURES

A while ago Katie posted this 'Disposable Camera Challenge' on her blog Skunkboy. I have been following Katie for quiet some time and I really love her pictures, they are so real. I don't know a better way to describe them. So when she posted this challenge I knew I had to be a part. My first camera was a disposable camera and I remember the excitement when I first held my newly developed pictures in my hands. I'm excited to be able to feel this way again. So I joined the challenge and what you see here is the outcome. I got some great shots of my family and friends and I will make sure and frame them :)

LIFE LATELY 09

This week is basically all about Russell's Birthday. We are having his favorite dinners, going out with friends, and enjoying life. We went back to cake day and munched on so much more cake and then I couldn't resist and gave him one of his presents early. It is the 'Epic Meal Time' cookbook. I am THE worst about presents, once I have something it is just too hard to keep it to myself. So I buy multiple things and try to keep the most important one for the actual birthday. A bit more about that in the next post...

Then this happened. I ordered Falling man by Don deLillo on Amazon. I was so excited to read the book, I opened it and there is a Star Trek novel inside. What? Yeah. That really happend. Amazon reimbursed me, but I still missed out on the novel.

Also: I have been getting back into New Girl. I love that show. It is just quirky and fun and I love Schmitt. Yay Schmitt! I'm in Season 2, anybody else watching it?

Then there is Buzzfeed. If I had nothing to do in my life this would still keep my occupied, right now it is just keeping me from doing things I really need to do. My little OCD brain is literally going crazy right now.

Did I ever mention that I love pugs? love.love.love.

Yesterday I stumbled up on this DIY. I am in love! I have these wood slates laying around from a project I never even started, so I am using at least one of them for this.

MAKE-UP BAGS

So after sewing a bunch of Make-Up Bags already, I decided to make some more in different shapes. The one on the far right is the one that I have made before, it is perfect for Make-Up, but can be used for all kinds of things, my mum used the one I gave her for her knitting supplies... The other two are slightly changed versions, the middle one is a little smaller and made up of two fabrics, the left one is only half of the original. The smalls one on the very left is ging to be my new pencil case, I think it is fun and a nice pop of color! What do you think?
