I recently took up sewing. I started with easy little projects, like a tote bag and pajama pants. My plan is to take on one project at a time and improve my skills. So far it has been a lot of fun and I enjoy spending my time sewing, and seeing what I can make with my own hands.
Suddenly, I needed a place to put my thread, pins, measuring tape, etc. So I started looking around on the internet. What I found was the Mason Jar Pin Cushion Tutorial by "The Cottage Home" Blog. Click here for the tutorial. It is a cute place to keep the essentials for the sewing project you are working at at the moment. I used some left over fabric from the pajama pants I made. Other than that you won't need much and it only takes 10-15 minutes:1 Mason Ball Jar (whatever size you like)
Some left over fabric
A piece of cardboard
A handful of cotton balls or fiberfill
Glue
Scissors
Pencil
And here is what you do:
1. Cut out a piece of cardboard of the size of the interior lid of your Mason Jar and cut it out.2. Put the interior lid on the fabric and draw a circle 2" wider than the lid.
3. Cut it out and Place your fabric (wrong-side up) over the exterior lid of the mason jar.
4. Place your cotton balls/fiberfill in the middle of the fabric circle.
5. Push the cotton balls/ fiberfill into the fabric, pushing it through the outside of your lid.
6. Take the interior lid and press it in to close up the outside filled with cotton balls/ fiberfil.
7. Glue the left over fabric to interior lid and then glue the cardboard circle on top of it
8. You are done, let the glue dry up and you pin cushion is done!
